One of the most important things any teacher can do is create a daily schedule. This was always the first thing I did in my classroom at school. Even though my "student" now is not even two years old, it is important for him to have a daily schedule, too. Do we follow the schedule everyday? Nope. Does it bother me if we do things out of order, later than usual, or not at all? Nope. Does it help to have a schedule as a reminder of what we need to do? Absolutely! Our schedule is a list of what we need to do on an ideal day. The schedule is basically for me. I post it on the refrigerator where I can see it often to keep me on track. It helps me stay organized, get things done and get out the door on time each day.
I started creating our daily schedule by making a broad list of the things we do everyday. I only listed the big things because I didn't want to get overwhelmed with every tiny task. If my schedule only has eight or ten things, it's less intimidating than a schedule with twenty or so small things. Here is the schedule we try to follow each day...
7:00 Breakfast
8:00 Art table
8:30 Get dressed
9:00 Leave for morning activity
12:00 Lunch
1:00 Nap
3:00 Snack
3:30 Outside
5:30 Dinner
6:30 Bath
7:30 Books and bedtime
